LSI Conflict™

Research and development by Ron Phillips—based on the Life Styles Inventory™ by J. Clayton Lafferty, Ph.D.

Differences of opinion are an inevitable part of organisational relationships, but while constructive differing is productive, out-and-out conflict is not.

Individual thinking and behaviour can help or hinder the way members of your organisation handle conflict situations. Does your team handle conflict constructively? LSI Conflict paints a picture of conflict styles and helps build Constructive thinking strategies for effective conflict resolution.

What does LSI Conflict do?

LSI Conflict is a feedback tool that:

  • uses a self-assessment to help participants gain a better understanding of their thinking styles and provides a visual representation of their strongest and weakest styles
  • provides a framework through which they can understand different conflict styles and their impact on conflict situations
  • equips participants with an action plan they can use to specify and commit to behaviour changes to develop more Constructive conflict styles.

LSI Conflict can also be used in combination with the Life Styles Inventory and Group Styles Inventory tools as part of an integrated approach to developing individual and group effectiveness.

What does LSI Conflict offer you?

Appropriate for all members of an organisation, LSI Conflict can be used to:

  • promote awareness of different conflict styles
  • help individuals deal with conflict in a more collaborative way
  • improve team performance and effectiveness through constructive communication
  • enhance cooperation and integrative problem-solving throughout the organisation
  • increase the effectiveness of conflict resolution to build a healthier culture.

LSI Conflict features

LSI Conflict meets rigorous academic and psychometric standards and is based on the world-renowned Life Styles Inventory. Styles measured by LSI Conflict are plotted on Human Synergistics’ Circumplex and results are compared to those of approximately 9,000 other people.

Research has shown that the orientations measured by LSI Conflict are related to a variety of outcomes, including:

  • quality of interpersonal relationships
  • problem-solving effectiveness
  • individual health and well-being
  • organisational culture.

LSI Conflict administration options

LSI Conflict is available in paper self-scored format. It gathers feedback using a self-assessment:

  • The LSI Conflict Inventory is completed by each participant and describes their own perceptions of how they respond to conflict.

The inventory takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete and about 10 minutes to self-score, and the results are plotted on a normed Circumplex to provide participants with immediate feedback.
